1 Corinthians 3:10-17, Seventh message in a series on 1 Corinthians

The Church: the people of God under the power of God for the praise of God
I Corinthians 3.10-17

Main Idea: A strong church is built on the foundation of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Challenge: Use only materials that please God.

The Church
I. Build carefully (10-15)

            A. Submit the results to God (10)
            B. Spend energy helping believers become like Jesus (11)
            C. Strengthen every heart with strong doctrine (12-15)
Rewards
Principles:
       1. Eternal judgment & “rewards” judgment are different
       2. Ultimate reward is inheriting salvation
       3. Jesus on rewards: key seems to be motivation

Applications:
       1. Potential of rewards invites godly living
       2. Pleasing God is the highest possible reward
       3. Don’t seek to please God just to get a reward

The Church

II. Build spiritually (16-17)

       People who belong to God
People filled by the Spirit, not by the world
People who will reject destructive influences
People who are holy, set apart for God

The Gospel Asks:
1. Do you want to live for God?
2. Do you want God to take over your life?
3. Do you want to live to please God & others?
4. Do you want to be set apart for God?
