            3. To receive honor for His obedience (Phil 2.9-11)

            4. To model the worth of future joy (Heb 12.2)

B. Why Jesus’ return to Heaven was good for believers.       (Jn 16.7)

            1. To send a Helper for believers (Acts 1.6-8)

            2. So believers could do “greater works” (Jn 14.12)

            3. To enable the endurance of believers (Rom 8.34; Heb 7.24-25)

            5. To prepare a place of everlasting rest (Jn 14.2-3; Rev 14.13)

III. Jesus in Heaven: King & Priest

IV. Encouragement and Expectation

A. Four encouragements      Jesus’ ascension . . .

            1. Secures justification for believers (Heb 10.10-14)

            2. Provides sanctification for believers (Eph 1.20-23; Col 1.18)

B. Two expectations:

            1. Called to a God-pleasing life of humility (Phil 2; 1 Pet 5.5-6)

            2. Empowered to share a gospel of heaven/hope (Acts 1.8)
