The trustees work to ensure ensure faithful stewardship of all employees, properties, and finances as all are a provision of our Lord. They are responsible for planning for the use of church property, including space allocation; providing long range planning for property expansion or alteration; negotiating and signing legal or binding documents; and the care and maintenance of all church property and equipment to make ministry possible.
In summary, our trustees are responsible for taking care of our property (resources).

What is a Trustee at Harrison Hills?
From the Bylaws we find:
The trustees shall ensure faithful stewardship of all employees, properties, and finances as all are a provision of our Lord. They shall be responsible for planning for the use of church property, including space allocation; providing long range planning for property expansion or alteration; negotiating and signing legal or binding documents; and the care and maintenance of all church property and equipment to make ministry possible.
Three trustees elected by the church will hold in trust the church property. They shall have no power to buy, sell, mortgage, lease, or transfer any property without a specific vote of the church authorizing each action. It shall be the function of the trustees to affix their signatures to legal documents involving the sale, mortgage, purchase, or rental of property or, contracts and other legal documents where the signatures of trustees are required. Trustees shall serve on a rotating basis, with one new trustee being elected every year.
In general, the Trustees shall be responsible for all legal obligations for the church and will ensure requirements regarding mortgage, insurance and other financial matters are met.
- The Trustees will hold the church property on behalf of the congregation.
- The Trustees will ensure that no part of the property is sold, mortgaged or otherwise encumbered or disposed of other than by an approving vote of members of the church at a duly constituted business meeting called to consider the matter.
- The Trustees will attend to the fulfillment of the legal obligations indicated in the terms of any Trust.
- The Trustees will ensure that the properties are adequately covered by insurance at all times, that premiums are paid promptly and that insurance coverage is reviewed at least every five years.
- The Trustees will attend to the safekeeping of all legal documents such as deeds, mortgage records, and insurance policies.
- The Trustees will, through the Treasurer, ensure that the appropriate documents are processed each year to ensure continued registration as a charitable organization according to the requirements of the state.
- The Trustees will, through the Treasurer, ensure that all withholding deductions (i.e. Income Tax, Social Security, Medicare, Health Insurance, and Pension contributions) related to employees are paid in full at the end of each quarter/year.
Trustees as Managers

- Coordinating budget needs with other boards and committees – tasks assisted by the Stewardship Committee
- Planning for use of property, including space allocation – tasks assisted by the Properties & Space Committee and staff
- Long‑range planning for property expansion or alteration – tasks assisted by the Long Range Planning Committee
- Negotiating and signing of documents
Trustees as Maintenance Supervisors
- Care and maintenance of all church property – tasks assisted by the Properties & Space Committee
- Oversight of use of rooms in cooperation with staff and committees – tasks assisted by the Properties & Space Committee
- Use of building/facilities by outside groups
- Repairs and replacement of equipment – tasks assisted by the Properties & Space Committee
- Schedule for routine upkeep: painting, etc. – tasks assisted by the Properties & Space Committee
Trustees in Ministry
- Care of property and equipment to make ministry possible – tasks assisted by the Properties & Space Committee
- Responsive to changing needs of ministerial staff, and church officers and committees– tasks assisted by the Personnel Committee
- Understanding that they have a spiritual trust to enable ministry
- Understanding the place of facilities in communicating who God is– tasks assisted by the Properties & Space Committee
Trustees in Mission
- Providing a place adequate to meet the spiritual needs of persons
- Demonstrating by their concern for property and programs that God and his people are concerned for others
- Implementing the concept that the church‑‑both people and property‑‑has a responsibility to serve the community
